What is the 2024 BOM Club?
The BOM Club is a friendly, cosy, patchwork space where we sew Blocks of the Months designed by Nic Vaughan. Who's Nic? Nic is passionate (in a crazy eyed kinda way) about hand piecing scrappy patchwork, hand sewing, applique and hand quilting. LOVE IT. Do I love it in a perfectionist, unattainable by the average patchworker way? Hell's no! I love it in a 'you should try it, come in the water's warm, this is going to be SO FUN' kinda way!
There are two BOM's to choose from for 2024 and if choosing is too hard, then you absolutely can jump into both, there's a 6 month gap between starting them. Read on for the details.
What's included in the 2024 BOM Club?
Clear, concise pattern instructions delivered in one space available to download as PDF and keep plus some video instruction to watch.
Colouring/planning sheet for each BOM. PDF templates, some optional acrylic templates for Mariners Mischief (details coming in January).
Member only discounts to the Craftapalooza Designs pattern store. More patterns coming in 2024!
A community space on the same platform as the patterns to share progress, finished blocks and ask questions of me and chat to others in the group. Never fear, if joining up sewing and not chatting is your thing, you do you!
Needleturn applique how-to videos to support the Meadowlicious quilt. This is such a fun design to sew.
A quilting diagram for both BOM's to show how you could hand or machine quilt your finished masterpiece.

Yes, there is not one, but two BOM's to choose from for 2024. And both tick very different boxes. Come along for a wild, fun patchworking ride.
MARINERS MISCHIEF
Starting 5 February 2024. This BOM is a dynamic sampler quilt that features the mariners compass block in a traditional way (in the centre of the quilt) and then a less conventional way in the corners. We're sewing a total of 10 different blocks in from 5 to 12½". There is a mix of templates and rotary cutting instruction. A unique feature with Mariners Mischief is that the quilting really brings this design to life. Mariners Mischief is 75x75".
MEADOWLICIOUS
Kicking off in June 2024 Meadowlicious is an applique adventure to sewing your own meadow. If you love texture, sewing yo-yo's and playing with fabric then this is the quilt for you. The BOM will come with video instruction for needleturn applique. If fusible and machine applique are your preference then, you can also sew using those methods! Finishing at 60x60".

Meet your designer...
Well hey there, I'm Nic, when I'm not rolling around on the floor on quilts and throwing apple pincushions around I'm designing quilts, hand sewing quilts, thinking about fabric and quilts and patchwork.... you get the idea.
I LOVE vintage quilt blocks and sampler quilts and needleturn applique and improving my own patchworking skills. Hand sewing is what calms my mind, gives me space to think and glimmers. ALL of the glimmers of joy and delight. I know, it sounds a bit much, but it truly is the delight in my world. I'm here to guide you and teach you the how I know of patchwork piecing. I'm not about rules or perfection, practice makes improvement! I'll give you the details to help you sew patchwork that you love and enjoy. So jump on in, it's cosy in here.
I'm an Australian from Perth, one of the most isolated cities in the world which gives me a unique perspective on patchwork. I live in the 'burbs with my partner and our two fur babies (a tabby, Piggie and a tortie, Kidden). I love to cook even though I hate the dreaded 'what's for dinner question'. I can't wait to take you on a patchworking adventure in 2024!

Is this a one-time payment?
Yes, the payment is a once-off and covers the 2024 BOM Club and whichever BOM journey you choose.
Pricing is in Australian dollars, how much is it in my currency?
YES! I'm an Australian based business. Your card issuer will convert the payment to your currency at the time of purchase. If you'd like to have an idea of the conversion rate (this fluctuates daily) click this link.
You mentioned acrylic templates for Mariners Mischief, tell me more
There will be two options available. A nearly full set (a couple of the blocks can be rotary cut and some pieces in blocks can be rotary cut) and there will be an option for just the Mariners Compass. I started sewing the quilt myself with cardboard templates, so that is absolutely doable (I get a tester set of templates to check them). However, I will share that we are sewing 20 mariner compass quarters, and a template set will make this a lot more pleasant. I myself are using the mariner template set whilst I'm sewing.
Where are the templates posted from?
I'm an Australian business, so they'll be coming from Australia.
Does the cost include fabric?
The short answer, no. The cost includes the 2024 BOM Club: pdf's to download each month including templates and instructions and some video instruction and the dedicated online community space. I'm working with Polka Dot Tea fabrics and Jeanette is putting together some starter kits that we're curating. Jeanette is an Australian based business as well, but the US dollar is strong against the AUD, so you'll find it not much different in pricing.
I need help with choosing fabrics, can you help me?
YES. Absolutely. In previous years participants have emailed me photos of their fabric choices and I've given some suggestions on how to use what they have. You can also use the photos of my Mariners Mischief and Meadowlicious as a guide (more photos coming soon!)
I'm new to handpiecing can I do this?
Absolutely you can, I'm available to answer questions and I'll provide video support for the 'tricky' parts. Practice makes improvement, so dive in!
I want to sew Meadowlicious - but I don't do needleturn applique
That's perfectly ok! You can use the method that you prefer. Included with the club is instruction for needleturn applique, so as long as you how to do the method you're using, you're good!
Do I need to be great with computers?
We want to be sewing, not working out complicated computer stuff! If you can click a link, log into an account with a username and password, and save a PDF file to your computer, you won’t need any extra technology skills. We’re also here to help you along the way if you encounter any difficulties.
Do I need to use Facebook or other social media platforms?
The 2024 BOM Club has its own private and dedicated community just for members. You can share photos, ask questions, give support and look for real-time help. If you'd like to, you can also join the optional Facebook group and share your images on social media. If you are a user of Instagram and share your blocks, I'd love to see them, tag #2024BOMClub
